We Yearn for Spiritual Awakening

By Richard Smith

June 29, 2025

*NOTICE: The emphasis of our discussion is to see how the Written Word (Bible) and the Spoken Word (Preaching) work together to build up the believer, so when you see WORD in the questions, know it refers to the Scripture and the Sermon.

Recap: Look back for evidence of God’s word reshaping your heart and life.

  1. Does anyone have a testimony to share with the group of week that was shaped by a “big view of Christ” as discussed last week?

EngageLook into the Word of God in light of Sunday’s preached sermon.

  1. Read Acts 2:36-45 as a group and discuss what stands out in the text.

Reflect: Look deeper at the preached and written Word.

  1. How might our understanding of spiritual awakening change if we viewed it as a ‘sovereign work of God’ rather than something we can manufacture ourselves?

  1. Richard said that during spiritual awakening, “bold, loving, truth-telling preachers indict their culture for being offensive to God.” How can we balance speaking truth and showing love in our current cultural context?

  1. Discuss the transformation described in the First Great Awakening. What similarities or differences do you see between that time and our current spiritual climate?

Respond: Look ahead and around to see how you can be obedient and missional.

  1. In what ways might our personal and corporate prayer lives need to change to align with the prayer of Habakkuk 3:2?

  1. How can we cultivate a hunger for God’s Word and teaching like the early church demonstrated, especially in an age of constant distraction?
