Speaking Boldly About our Awesome God

By Richard Smith

August 3, 2025

*NOTICE: The emphasis of our discussion is to see how the Written Word (Bible) and the Spoken Word (Preaching) work together to build up the believer, so when you see WORD in the questions, know it refers to the Scripture and the Sermon.

Recap: Look back for evidence of God’s word reshaping your heart and life.

  1. Does anyone have a testimony to share with the group of how you applied last week’s “Respond” section?

EngageLook into the Word of God in light of Sunday’s preached sermon.

  1. Read the passage from Malachi 2:5-7 as a group. What does it mean to you to “revere God and stand in awe of His name”?

Reflect: Look deeper at the preached and written Word.

  1. Pastor Richard shared personal examples of seeing God’s glory in his intestines and a storm/rainbow. Share an experience where you’ve seen God’s wonder in an unexpected place or situation.

  1. What are some practical ways we can ensure that our spiritual leadership or influence is rooted in genuine reverence for God rather than professional ambition?

  1. In what ways might our approach to evangelism and discipleship change if we truly internalized the reality of eternal consequences for unbelief?

Respond: Choose one or two of the following applications of Sunday’s message and commit to it/them this next week.

  1. This week, intentionally look for God’s glory in nature or your everyday surroundings. Journal about what you observe.

  2. Choose a book of the Bible to study in-depth over the next month, focusing on what it reveals about God’s character.

  3. Identify one area of your life where you need to be more courageous in speaking God’s truth. Pray for opportunities and boldness.

  4. Reflect on your own “awe” of God. Are there areas where you’ve become complacent? Make a plan to rekindle your wonder in those areas.

  5. Consider a specific way you can support and encourage your church leaders in their commitment to teaching God’s Word faithfully this week.
