Recap: Look back for evidence of God’s word reshaping your heart and life. Does anyone have a testimony of how you have been strengthened by the cross this week to endure in the faith, overcome temptation, silence shame, or witness for Christ? Engage: Look into the Word of God in light of Sunday’s preached sermon. Read Acts 1:15-26 as a group and discuss your initial observations of the text. Reflect: Look deeper at the preached and written Word. How does Peter’s transformation from denying Christ to leading the early church inspire you in your own spiritual journey? What does this teach us about God’s ability to use flawed individuals? In what ways might we be like Judas, outwardly appearing to follow Christ while harboring hidden sins or selfish motives? How can we guard against this deception? How does the concept of God’s sovereignty over even evil actions (like Judas’ betrayal) impact your trust in God during difficult or confusing circumstances? In what ways might you be tempted to handle guilt or shame like Judas (self-harm, isolation) rather than like Peter (repentance, returning to Jesus)? How can we cultivate a ‘Peter-like’ response? Respond: Look ahead and around to see how you can be obedient and missional. Which of the 3 qualifications of a spiritual leader do you have the biggest hang-up with (confidence in the sovereignty of God, authentic relationship with Jesus, or ability to move past failures by the forgiveness of Christ) and how will you strengthen that area of your life? Richard emphasized the importance of being a “witness of the resurrection.” How can we more effectively embody and communicate this reality in our daily lives and interactions this week?
