The Power of Love

1 Corinthians 13:1-7

NOTICE: The emphasis of our discussion is to see how the Written Word (Bible) and the Spoken Word (Preaching) work together to build up the believer, so when you see WORD in the questions, know it refers to the Scripture and the Sermon.

Recap: Look back for evidence of God’s word reshaping your heart and life.

  1. Does anyone have a testimony of how last week’s WORD (removing the tension in relationships through forgiveness) was put into practice?

Engage: Look into the Word of God in light of Sunday’s preached sermon.

  1. Read Isaiah 64:5-6 followed by Isaiah 61:10 and describe how God’s love for us works.

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-7 and come up with a working definition as a group for what the word love means.

Reflect: Look deeper at the preached and written Word.

  1. Compare and contrast the love discussed in this WORD and the concept of love that our world presents to us.

  1. How could someone give up all they have or offer their body to be burned without having love? What is Paul trying to say by including this tension.

Respond: Look ahead and around to see how you can be obedient and missional.

  1. Richard discussed the 3 layers of clothing (Christ’s righteousness, Christ’s character, and Christ’s armor) that believers get to put on. What needs to happen in your life for you to be more fully clothed?

  1. Specifically, how has God’s radical love for you affected your heart for other people (see (John 13:1-8 for assistance)?
