Behold the Glory of Jesus

January 7, 2024

“Behold the Glory of Jesus Christ”

Matthew 17:1-8

Take-Home Truth: We become like what we behold.

Christ-Connection: Beholding the glory of Jesus allows us to see Jesus and focus exclusively on Him.

Recap: (Talk about last week)

1. Share with the group what you thought about Richard’s socks, and comment on if there were Christmas decorations?

Engage: (Observe the passage and engage with the text)

2. Read Matthew 17:1-8, Luke 9:29, and Mark 9:3 and compare the accounts: why are there differences and what are the main truths they all wanted to communicate?

3. From these texts and others in the Bible, in what ways to do think first century followers of Jesus struggled with beholding the greatness of God?

Reflect: (Reflect upon the key take-aways from the sermon)

4. Share with the group the “competing glories” with which you struggle.

5. Discuss with the group a spiritual “mountain top” experience and why you felt you wanted to stay there a while. Why was it better for you to return to the world and how did your experience transform you and change your conversation with others?

Respond: (Apply the truths of God’s Word to your heart, affections, and actions)

6. Charles Spurgeon said, “Oh, that we also may have the eye of our mind so fixed on the Lord as our one object, that He may fill the whole vision, and we may see Jesus only!” In light of this and what Peter wrote in 2 Peter 1:17-21, explore, identify, and share with the group practical ways to seek Jesus to enable you to behold His glory.
